Seriously injured man was 'screaming' and 'bleeding' in middle of quiet street after Bolton stabbing

A seriously injured man was reportedly 'screaming' and 'bleeding' in the middle of a quiet street after being stabbed in Bolton on Wednesday night (December 14). Police were called to reports of a stabbing on Bleak Street, in Bolton at around 5pm.

According to witnesses, the victim was heard 'screaming out in pain' and 'asking for help' following the incident before walking off towards Tonge Moor Road shortly afterwards.

Officers arrived at the scene and erected a large cordon as enquiries into the incident were carried out. A second cordon, on nearby Tonge Moor Road was also put in place shortly after.

One witness, who said they were the first to call the emergency services, told the Manchester Evening News : "I heard someone screaming and looked out and saw a man in the middle of the street.

"He was screaming out in pain and I could see he was bleeding from his stomach. We went to check if he was okay and took him out a towel and some water, but he was just shouting and saying he had been stabbed.

"He kept telling us he was cold and that he needed help. He was shivering. We were trying to help but then he started walking off down to the end towards Tonge Moor Road and that was when I lost him.

"We have lived here for about six years and never have problems like this. It's a calm neighbourhood."

Others told of how they arrived home from work, shortly after teatime, and saw a swarm of officers at the scene. Concerned locals also took to social media upon seeing the police scene on the busy main road.

"I don't know what happened, but when I got back it was all taped off. I had to park my car further down the road because I couldn't get past," another Bleak Street homeowner said.

"Nothing ever really happens like this round here, so I was surprised to see it all to be honest. It's shocked us all really because it's normally so quiet."

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that paramedics treated the man at the scene, who was taken to hospital with serious injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening. Anyone with any information or footage is being urged to contact the force as investigations into the incident continue.

A spokesperson said: "At approximately 5pm this evening (14 December 2022), officers were called to reports of a stabbing on Bleak Street in Bolton. Officers and paramedics attended the scene and one man was taken to hospital with injuries that are serious but are not believed to be life-threatening.
