Series of events to showcase Newcastle at Mipim property fair

A series of events will be held at the world’s largest property fair in a bid to sell Newcastle and the wider North East to potential investors.

Invest Newcastle is leading a delegation to the Mipim event in Cannes, France, later this month which will aim to highlight opportunities for investors in the area.

More than 20 separate events will be held to showcase the region’s expertise in areas including life sciences, data, placemaking, ageing, wellbeing and sustainability. There will also be events highlighting specific developments, such as the Sage conference centre being built at Gateshead and the £500m campus for ageing and vitality being planned for the former Newcastle General Hospital site.

Regional leaders will also link up with representatives of other cities around Europe to talk about challenges in opportunities in the green agenda.

Jennifer Hartley, director at Invest Newcastle said: “We can’t wait to get back to Cannes and showcase the region on a global stage after a two-year break due to the pandemic. Throughout that time, our developments haven’t slowed, and we’ve seen huge investment into the area.

“We’re looking forward to shouting about this at Mipim. Our themes, thought leaders and collaboration with other cities and the UK government will really help to position us as a leading city and secure further investment.

“Our partners are so passionate about our city and play such a vital role in helping us to have stronger international voice. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support, passion and collective ambition for our city.”

Newcastle City Council chief executive Pam Smith said: “This event is an excellent example of the private and public sectors working together to accelerate growth and investment. As a city, multi-agency collaboration is at the heart of everything we do, and this is what is driving us forward into the future.

“We are one the fastest growing cities outside of London and following our record amount of investment over the past two years, we are in an incredibly strong position to demonstrate what our wider city region can offer to potential investors.”

A number of private sector companies - including Ryder Architecture, Pfp Igloo and Mott MacDonald - will join the public sector organisations at the event.

Mark Thompson, managing partner at Ryder Architecture said: “We are proud to continue our support of Invest Newcastle and to be an integral part of what is always a passionate team promoting our city and region. Ryder’s portfolio of exciting projects blur boundaries between education, health, residential, workplace, leisure and infrastructure, reflecting the ambition and energy of our cities to create better places to live.

“Mipim 2022 is a great opportunity to showcase our region, people and skills to an international audience and attract further investment to support continued growth and development across our communities.”
