Sensational Scottie Scheffler has won the 2022 Masters after seeing off a surprise late challenge from Rory McIlroy.
Scheffler led by three going into Sunday's final round as he and Cameron Smith were paired up on a day where the turbulent winds calmed to make way for another day of drama in Georgia.
Fans enjoyed their afternoon, saluting Tiger Woods earlier on as he was able to mark his comeback by completing the full 72 holes before stating his intention to play The Open at St Andrews later this year.
But then it was time for the real drama as Smith started brightly with a pair of birdies on 1 and 2, only for successive bogeys to undo that good work while Scheffler birdied on 3 and 7.
Smith's slip-ups were nothing, however, compared to a nightmare trip to the 12th when Rae's Creek swallowed up once more.
Hitting the infamous water led to a disastrous triple bogey that put paid to his Augusta ambitions.
But as Scheffler lined up a simple putt for birdie on 13, he heard the roar five holes ahead when McIlroy signed off with something special, finding his mark from the bunker to post a spectacular 64, -7 overall, and tying the Masters record for a final round.
That laid down the marker for Scheffler on -10, who blew the putt but now knew exactly what was necessary to be wearing green by the end of the day.
Back-to-back birdies followed and the American remained in the zone throughout the remainder of his round, save for four-putting the final hole as the jangling nerves came too late to derail a magnificent weekend.
