Senne Lammens 'wants to leave' Club Brugge amid Leeds United links

Senne Lammens 'wants to leave' Club Brugge amid reports linking him with a move to Leeds United, according to FCB's goalkeeping coach Peter Mollez.

As reported by HLN, the 20-year-old has turned down a new deal at the Belgian outfit, with his contract expiring in July. Talks with Leeds are reportedly under way for the Belgium under-21 goalkeeper, who appears to be unwilling to serve as understudy to Simon Mignolet for a third season.

Lammens is yet to register a single senior appearance for Club Brugge this term, and Mollez admits that Mignolet's stellar form for the Blue-Black is the only thing preventing Lammens from breaking into the first team.

“Together, we have intensified the club’s entire goalkeeper training,” Mollez told KW. “We have prepared guys like Senne Lammens and Nick Shilton – two gigantic talents – to succeed Simon.

“Senne was still training with the reserves [when I arrived]. But, after four weeks, I asked to move him to the first-team. But I understand that Senne wants to leave after two years on the bench. The boy should be able to take the next step in his career. Simon is actually [keeping him out of the starting XI].”

The goalkeeper rocketed through the ranks at Club Brugge and famously scored a 95th minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw against Real Madrid U19s in the UEFA Youth League in December 2019.

He has amassed 19 caps for Belgium across various age groups, including three outings for the U21s. Lammens was presented with his Pro League debut in a 2-2 home draw against KAS Eupen on the opening day of the season in July 2021.

Lammens made three further appearances for Club Brugge last season, including most notably in their 3-2 victory over KRC Genk in the Belgian Supercup final.
