Selena Gomez has broken her silence over the alleged 'feud' between herself and Hailey Bieber and called for an end to the online abuse directed towards the supermodel. The singer took to Instagram this morning (March 24) to stand up for her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber’s wife after revealing Hailey had contacted her.
She said the 26-year-old had 'reached out' after receiving death threats and 'hateful negativity'.
Selena, who stars on Disney + series ‘Only Murders in the Building’ wrote on her Stories: "Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity.

"This isn't what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I've always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop."
Selena also started following Hailey on Instagram in a show of support.
While the discourse surrounding Selena and Hailey has been an ongoing discussion for years due to the fact that Gomez dated Hailey’s husband, Justin Bieber, on-and-off for many years, internet speculation has heightened in recent months.
The latest drama between the pair started in February 2023, after Selena posted a video of her eyebrows on social media, admitting she laminated them 'too much'.
Hours later, Kylie Jenner - Hailey's best friend - was accused by fans of mocking the actress after posting photos of her own brows on Instagram. The reality TV star later added fuel to the fire by posting a screenshot of a FaceTime call with Hailey, zoomed in on her eyebrows.
Kylie shut down accusations that she was throwing shade at Selena saying people were “making something out of nothing” to which Selena replied: “Agreed @kyliejenner. It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”
Later that month, fans accused Hailey of shading the singer again after she posted an Instagram story with the song 'Calm Down', but the version that doesn't feature Selena on the track.
Fan theories on what was going on between Selena and Hailey began to circulate, with the main narrative on social media platforms such as TikTok being that Hailey Bieber was “mean girl” and “bully.”
In April 2022, after many internet trolls swarmed Hailey's comment sections on social media, pinning her against Gomez, she responded in a candid TikTok video, saying, “Leave me alone at this point. I’m minding my business. I don’t do anything. I don’t say anything. Leave me alone, please. Enough time has gone by where it’s valid to leave me alone. I beg of you, truly. That’s my only request. Leave me alone. Be miserable somewhere else, please.”
Amid the online drama, Selena announced she was taking a break from social media.
In a TikTok Live clip shared by fans, the 30-year-old said: “I’m going to be taking a second from social media, because this is a little silly. I’m 30 and am too old for this.”
“But I love you so much and I’ll see you guys sooner than later. I’m just gonna take a break from everything.”
It was recently announced that the former child star is the first woman to reach 400 million followers on Instagram, surpassing Kylie Jenner, who has 382 million followers, as the most-followed woman on the photo-sharing platform.
