Secunderabad passes resolution to reclassify Army land to build alternate road

SECUNDERABAD: In a relief to students of Faizan High School and residents of Pension Lane in New Bowenpally, Secunderabad, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) has passed a resolution to reclassify A-1 land (under Army control) and B-4 (vacant land) to build an alternate road at Pension Lane at a board meeting.

As per the resolution, a total of 0.595 acres land including an extent of 0.140 acres A-I land and another 0.455 acres land has been recommended for reclassification to class ‘C’ (Cantonment) land. “The resolution will be forwarded to the competent authority (LMA) for clearance,” said a senior SCB engineer. Residents have been demanding an alternate road for easy access to a school and a mosque for the last 18 years.

The development comes a week after the issue was published in these columns on January 29. The local military authority (LMA) had shut the main entrance to the school and mosque citing security reasons a few months ago.

A series of inspections were undertaken by the SCB and Defence Estates Office, Telangana for the construction of the road. “The LMA had entered into MoU with representatives of the Muslim Board in 2004 stating that an alternate road will be constructed, but the plan got delayed,” said Syed Siraj, a member of Muslim Board, Pension Lane, who has been fighting for the construction of the road since 2004. With the SCB resolution passed, Siraj hopes the pending demand will be fulfilled soon.
