The search for a missing pensioner from Wallsend has been stood down after six days as police believe he could have fallen into a river.
Ronnie Brown, aged 81, was reported missing on Sunday (November 6), after he failed to return to his Wallsend home. But today (November 11), specialist officers from Northumbria Police have spoken to Ronnie’s family and confirmed that the search has been stood down.
This week, a search was carried out with officers trawling the wider area, reviewing CCTV and conducting door-to-door enquiries in the hope of locating the missing pensioner.

Dozens of volunteers, friends, neighbours and community members also assisted with the expansive search.
Superintendent Sam Rennison said: “The thoughts of every single person at Northumbria Police are with Ronnie’s family today, as they have been since Sunday.
“This decision was not made lightly, but sadly, after six days of extensive searching and after consultation with his family, we have the made the decision to stand down.
“We combed the area for CCTV and considered all possible routes he may have taken. Based on findings we believe that Ronnie headed towards the river and may have fallen in the water.”
The Force’s Marine Unit, assisted by specialist trained dogs who can conduct water searches, were drafted into the search but sadly there have been no sightings of Ronnie.
Supt Rennison added: “This was not the outcome that anyone hoped for and we are supporting Ronnie’s wife and loved ones.
“I ask that everyone respects their privacy during this challenging and heart-wrenching time.
“I also want to take this opportunity to thank the community for their support and our officers for their efforts. Community spirit and compassion is strong in our area and the people of Wallsend really rallied – thank you.
“I want to also thank our partners from other emergency services for their specialist assistance.”
