Sean Payton says ‘zero truth’ to reported friction with Broncos ownership

The spiciest Sean Payton subplot just keeps giving. The Washington Post’s Mark Maske reported Thursday that the former New Orleans Saints coach left his recent meeting with Denver Broncos brass fearing “a potential power struggle” with one of the team’s new owners, only for Payton to turn around rebuff it from his official Twitter account.

“Zero truth to this,” Payton wrote Thursday evening. “We had a great visit and Broncos Ownership was fantastic!!”

Maybe Maske’s sources were mistaken. Maybe Payton is trying to save face. Whatever the case, the sweepstakes surrounding the ex-Saints coach is still ongoing. Payton met with the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday after speaking with the Broncos and Carolina Panthers (who named Frank Reich their new coach on Thursday, too — it’s been a busy newsday) earlier this week. The second round of interviews are kicking off around the league and it remains to be seen whether Payton will get a callback, so stay tuned.
