Seamus Coleman injury latest as Ireland and Everton star gives positive update

Seamus Coleman has vowed to ‘be back soon’ after revealing his injury is not as serious as first feared.

The Republic of Ireland captain was carried off on a stretcher in Everton’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City on Monday.

And Toffees boss Sean Dyche expressed fears that it could be ‘serious’ - but scan results today are positive.

Coleman, 34, posted on Instagram and said: “Just wanted to update you all, thanks so much for all the well wishes.

“Just back from my scan and pleased to say I have no ACL damage. Be back soon.”

It remains to be seen if Coleman will play again this season as Everton have just four games left in their relegation battle.

And Ireland boss Stephen Kenny is eagerly awaiting news on Coleman’s recovery time ahead of next month’s Euro qualifiers against Greece and Gibraltar.

But the Donegal man’s update is uplifting considering how much concern there was for his well-being at the King Power Stadium.

His right leg buckled under a heavy challenge from Boubakary Soumare and he was carried off on a stretcher before half-time.

Coleman’s leg was placed in a protective brace, but he was still seen whipping up the Everton players and supporters as he was carried off.

In 2017, Coleman suffered a double leg break on international duty for Ireland, in a sickening clash with Wales’ Neil Taylor.

He was out of the Everton team for 10 months, and a full year with Ireland, before making a successful return to action.

Despite Everton’s struggles in the relegation race, Coleman has been in good form this season for club and country.

And he was one of Ireland’s standout performers in the recent 1-0 Euro 2024 qualifying defeat to France, keeping a lid on Kylian Mbappe at Aviva Stadium.

Everton have four games remaining as they fight for their Premier League survival - with Coleman desperate to feature at some point in the run in.

The Toffees are second bottom of the table and a point from safety ahead of games against Brighton (on Monday), Manchester City, Wolves and Bournemouth.
