Seahawks

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Geno Smith threw two first-half touchdown passes against the Denver Broncos, facing Russell Wilson in Seattle. They didn’t score any points in the second half, but the defense forced two Broncos fumbles at the goalline and Denver missed a 65-yard field goal at the end of the game, rather than letting Wilson and the offense go for it on fourth down.

The Broncos outgained the Seahawks 433 yards to 253 but the Seahawks win 17-16.

Rams

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Rams kicked off the NFL season with a stinker against the Buffalo Bills. They lost the season opener 31-10 at home.

Matthew Stafford was picked off three times and sacked seven times. The Rams managed only 243 yards of offense. The only bright spot was the continued dominance of receiver Cooper Kupp. He had 13 receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown.

49ers

Daniel Bartel-USA TODAY Sports

The 49ers blew a 10-0 lead, allowing the Chicago Bears to score two fourth-quarter touchdowns. The Bears, who managed only 204 yards of offense, won the game 19-10.

QB Trey Lance did not throw a touchdown pass and was picked off. The 49ers went scoreless on their final four possessions, turning the ball over three times — once on an interception and twice on downs.

Cardinals

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

We all saw what happened with the Cardinals, as they were completely overmatched by the Kansas Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes threw five touchdown passes and was not sacked, and the Chiefs rolled up 488 yards of offense in a 44-21 win.

Coming up in Week 2

  • The Cardinals will travel to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders.
  • The Rams will play at home against the Atlanta Falcons.
  • The Seahawks and Rams play one another in Santa Clara.
