Artificial intelligence is accelerating the online radicalisation of Australians, federal police have warned, as the country grapples with the worst attack on a politician in more than 30 years.

Australia is facing an uphill battle against a "tsunami" of youth crime on the nation's streets, AFP's Assistant Commissioner Sandra Booth told a government inquiry on Wednesday.
