Scouse comedy filmed across Liverpool coming to ITV

A new Scouse comedy series about teenagers in Liverpool is coming to ITV.

Danny Kenny, from Wallasey, wrote the six-part series 'G'wed' which is set and filmed in the city. G'wed follows the lives of a group of teenagers in Year 11 at school, looking at how they view the world.

Danny, 37, said: "Being from a working-class background I'm fascinated by how your upbringing can shape you, so it's really important to me that the show challenges stereotypes. I want each character to constantly surprise, reflecting a more genuine and well-rounded take on the people of Liverpool.

"I think sometimes working class depictions on TV can be a bit grim or a bit dreary with no fun to it. I want to show times have changed, there's a funny side to kids and a real side.

"They have the world at their feet just as much as anyone else. There's a multi-faceted side to everyone."

The show hopes to challenge stereotypes and show the working class culture of "surviving with a sense of humour".

Danny said: "I think what's interesting to me is, a lot of people come to Liverpool who aren't from here say how much of a different energy it has - maybe part of that is the humour."

Speaking of the show's title 'G'wed', Danny said: "I was thinking of a word that's a bit unique to Liverpool. It started as a working title - people at ITV seemed to like it."

The six-part series will be filmed across Merseyside this summer with a cast of local actors.

Danny said: "I'd be lying if I said I didn't want the show to be success but it's great to be able to start people off on their careers. It is exciting but it's quite nerve wracking as well, especially when you're representing a city.

"I think what's important to me is people find it authentic and real."

G'wed will be released on ITVX in 2024.
