Scottish stars to compete against each other at Golden Globes

SCOTTISH actors Ewan McGregor and Richard Gadd are set to compete against each other at the Golden Globes after being nominated in the same category.

The pair have both received nominations in the Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series category, with Gadd being shortlisted for his role in Baby Reindeer and McGregor up for the award for his role as Count Alexander Ilyich Rostov in A Gentleman in Moscow.

Baby Reindeer, created by Gadd, bagged three nominations, including Best Television Limited Series.

The show, starring Gadd and Jessica Gunning, is set in London but follows the Scottish comedian’s story as he deals with a stalker.

Gadd was nominated for his role as Donny Dunn, and Gunning was nominated for her role as Martha Scott in the Netflix comedy.

Jack Lowden (below), a Scottish actor who grew up in the Borders, has also been nominated for his role as River Cartwright in Apple TV spy thriller Slow Horses.

Meanwhile, Tilda Swinton – whose great-grandfather was Scottish politician and herald George Swinton – has been nominated for Best Actress in a Drama for her role in The Room Next Door.

The glittering ceremony is set to take place at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Emmy-nominated comedian and actress Nikki Glaser will be the host this year for the 82nd ceremony.

The film leading the way with 10 nominations is Emilia Perez, followed by The Brutalist with seven and Conclave with six.

Meanwhile, The Bear has dominated the TV categories with five nominations.
