Scottish mum-of-five turns her life around after huge five stone weight loss

A Scottish mum has said her life has changed after she lost an impressive five stone.

According to 30-year-old Debbie Gilmour, from Johnstone, both her physical and mental state has improved since shredding the weight.

After she was told by doctors that she couldn't receive surgery on her foot due to a high BMI, the mum-of-five joined Slimming World and started her weight loss journey.

Speaking to Paisley Daily Express, Debbie said: "Back in 2021 I joined Grace's Slimming World group because I needed to get surgery on my foot due to an injury, but unfortunately my BMI was far too high and the doctors said I had to get my BMI down.

"I had tried lots of different diets in the past and nothing worked. I then received a Slimming World leaflet through my door and decided to give it a go.

"That leaflet has changed my life. After losing three stone my surgery went ahead. I continued going to Slimming world after my surgery because I realised how much better I felt in myself from losing weight and wanted to continue my journey."

Debbie now says that her "unhealthy relationship" with food has since improved and has gone from a size 24/16. She is now finding it easier to do everyday tasks after the weight loss, such as tying her shoes and playing with her children.

But the biggest gain is how Debbie's confidence has grown during after working hard to shift the weight. She added: "My self-confidence was so low before I lost weight. I wouldn't even look in the mirror.

"My mental health had got so bad due to the pain I was in with my foot and my lack of self-confidence was impacting my marriage and I was too embarrassed to take my kids out to play.

“At one point I felt trapped and I didn’t know how I could change how I felt until I received a leaflet through my door.”

The 30-year-old added: "Weight loss isn't just about eating the right foods and moving more it's also about our mindsets.

"There are so my things I can now physically do that I never used to be able to. I can now touch my toes and bend down to tie my shoelaces and my children's shoelaces.

"I can now go to the gym and feel confident. I have learnt how to skip with skipping ropes, I can now go for long walks without being in a lot of pain.

"I can also even go up and down stairs without being out of breath. I've also found that I now sleep a lot better."
