Scottish gin heads to Hollywood as part of gift bag for Oscar nominees

AN award-winning Scottish spirits manufacturer is to make it to Hollywood after its gin was selected to be part of the nominee gift bags at this year’s Oscars.

Gin Bothy, which is distilled in Angus, has been chosen as part of the lavish offering that will be hand delivered to the top 25 2024 Oscar nominees.

The exclusive gift set, described by creators Distinctive Assets as the “ultimate swag bag” has gone to nominees for Best Director, Best Actress and Best Actor.

Well known nominees at this year’s ceremony on March 10 could include Cillian Murphy, Leonardo DiCaprio and Emma Stone – who is tipped to pick up an award for her role in the adaptation of Alasdair Gray’s Poor Things.

It’s not the first time Scotland has made an appearance in the gift bags.

We previously told how a petition called on Hollywood stars to snub the gift bags following news that they included a plot of Highlands land bestowing the title “Lord or Lady of Glencoe”.

Gin Bothy owner Kim Cameron said the chance to showcase her product to Hollywood stars is too good an opportunity to turn down.

“This is incredible news for us. It’s giving us a chance to showcase Scottish spirits with our award-winning gin,” she said.

“We are taking a little piece of Scotland to Los Angeles with an exclusive small batch distillation of our gin for the Oscar nominees.

“It will be a high-end gin made with Scottish heather, Scots pine and rosemary, essentially a real taste of Scotland in a bottle.”

Cameron added: “The Oscars and Hollywood is another world. I’m from a generation that grew up watching them and it meant a lot to my dad.

“Silver screen stars were the icons of the film industry so it’s a real honour for a small Scottish independent brand to be part of that evening.

“If I can get my product to the Oscars then I hope it inspires others in the Scottish food and drink industry to think big.”
