Scottish Cup: Kilwinning Rangers boss wants to create special day in club's history

David Gormley wants to create a special day in Kilwinning’s history.

The Buffs will welcome League Two side Forfar on Saturday in the Scottish Cup – and the boss admits there’s no pressure on his side.

They will battle it out for a spot in round three of the prestigious competition.

Gormley said: “We are all buzzing for it, it’ll be a great day – and it’s a free hit for us.

“If we go out there and do our bit we will see where it takes us, Forfar are a good team it will be a right hard game.

“Every player needs to be in form if we want a result, we’ve seen other teams doing it from our league over the years.

“It would be special if we can do it, these teams had to give blood, sweat and tears – that’s what we have to do.

“But getting a result would
be fantastic for the club, community and fans.

He added: “Being at home means it’s going to be special for the fans, that’s the biggest thing – it’s on our patch.

“We know we are capable at home, we’ve won against big teams here, I am happy where we are at and we’re on good form.”

Meanwhile, Gormley was almost booking a flight home when his side went 1-0 down to Glasgow Perthshire in the South Challenge Cup as he was on holiday – but a 5-1 win settled him down.

He laughed: “I actually was on the sun lounger when the game was on!

“All the preparation had been done, but then I saw the score come in and we were 1-0 down.

“So, then I was wondering when it was acceptable to phone the coaches and just as I went to send the message, we scored a couple of goals.

“That settled me down a bit and I was able to head to the swim-up bar and order another drink!”
