A SCOTTISH council has warned people to stay away from the River Esk amid fears of flooding.
In a statement posted on Twitter/X, East Lothian council shared images of sandbags and other precautionary measures being put in place in Musselburgh after flooding around the river following heavy rain.
“Members of the public are urged to stay away and keep pets away from the riverbank until water levels drop,” a statement on the council’s website said.
Elsewhere across Scotland, a number of flood warnings remain in place in the following areas:
- Inch Park and Peffermill
- Musselburgh
- Cramond
- Shiplaw to Crossburn including Eddleston
- Romannobridge to Lyne Station
- Peebles (Eddleston Water)
- Pollok Country Park
Less severe flood alerts meanwhile have been put in place by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency in the following areas:
- Edinburgh and Lothians
- Scottish Borders
- West Central Scotland
- Argyll and Bute
- Ayrshire and Arran
- Central
- Dumfries and Galloway
- Dundee and Angus
- Fife
- Findhorn Nairn Moray and Speyside
- Tayside
Hundreds of drivers were left stuck for hours on the Edinburgh city bypass on Thursday night as a result of heavy rain.
The A720 at Dreghorn was closed in both directions from about 5.30pm after more than a month’s worth of rain fell in 36 hours.
In a statement published on Twitter/X on Friday morning, the City of Edinburgh Council said “disruption and delays are likely” and encouraged people to check online for any updates before travelling.
