Scott Brown thanks Celtic 'for all the memories' as club promise tributes to legendary captain

Scott Brown has thanked Celtic "for all the memories" after announcing his retirement.

Record Sport exclusively revealed on Friday night that the club's legendary former skipper had officially taken the decision to hang up his boots.

Brown departed Aberdeen following the arrival of Jim Goodwin in March with the expectation he would continue to pursue his coaching career after serving as Dons player-coach under Stephen Glass.

And he confirmed he'd called time on his playing career and now has management on his mind.

Celtic posted a Tweet from their official account acknowledging Brown 's decision and promised tributes to the 36-year-old in the coming days.

The Tweet read: "Legendary former #CelticFC Captain Scott Brown has today announced his retirement from professional football. We will pay tribute to Scott over the coming days.

"Enjoy your retirement and best of luck in your next chapter."

And Brown replied: "Thanks for all the memories"

Brown made a total of 787 appearances for Celtic, Hibs and Aberdeen across a glittering career.

At Celtic Park, he picked up an incredible 23 major honours.

The midfielder also enjoyed a distinguished international career, earning 55 caps for Scotland.
