Scott Brown leaves Aberdeen as Celtic legend hails former Dons boss Stephen Glass as he seeks coaching opportunity

Aberdeen team captain Scott Brown has left the club by mutual consent as the Celtic legend seeks opportunities in coaching.

The 36-year-old midfielder - who joined the Dons on a two-year deal as a player-coach last summer - has left Pittodrie following Jim Goodwin's appointment as manager.

Goodwin came in the door after Stephen Glass was sacked by the Reds, as Brown now follows the man who brought him to the North East out the door.

It appears he will now hang up his boots and pursue coaching - with Brown previously a candidate to replace Goodwin at St Mirren and has recently been linked with a return to the Celtic set-up.

The former Scotland skipper - who won 22 trophies with the Hoops - paid tribute to Glass as the Dandies announced his departure.

He said: "I would like to take this opportunity to firstly thank the board at Aberdeen and, of course, Stephen Glass and his backroom staff, for giving me the opportunity to enjoy my first taste of coaching.

"I’d also like to thank all my team-mates and the great staff both at Cormack Park and Pittodrie.

"I know I was only in the North East for a short period, but the fans made me feel welcome from day one, so my thanks must also go to them for showing me so much support.

"Aberdeen is a huge club and I know there is a real determination from all to deliver success both on and off the pitch. I wish them all the best for the remainder of the season."
