Scots thug who 'beat teenager senseless' with weightlifting bar facing jail

A man is facing jail after beating a teenager senseless with a weightlifting bar.

Gary Kelly, 49, hit 19-year-old Dylan Wilson "at least five times" with the bar until Mr Wilson lost consciousness in the incident in Grangemouth, Stirlingshire, Stirling Sheriff Court was told.

The court heard the attack occurred at a flat in Kersiebank Avenue, Grangemouth, occupied by Mr Kelly's girlfriend.

Prosecutor Kristina Kelly said Mr Wilson had gone to the bathroom in the flat to be sick because he had drunk too much, when Kelly approached him with the metal bar and repeatedly struck him with it on the head and body.

Mr Wilson was taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital with mild concussion, while Kelly, who was arrested covered in blood, was also taken to the infirmary with "self inflicted injuries".

The court was told it was "fortuitous" that Mr Wilson's injuries were not serious.

Kelly, of Alva, Clackmannanshire, who appeared in court by video link from Low Moss Prison, pleaded guilty to assault. The incident occurred on February 6th (2022).

Sheriff Kirsty Hood QC deferred sentence for reports until July 13th.
