A Scots mum who has shed an incredible five stone says it has “changed her life.”
Debbie Gilmour, from Johnstone, said that not has her physical health improved after losing weight, but so has her mental health alongside her quality of life.
The mum-of-five joined her local Slimming World last year after doctors told her she couldn’t get surgery on her foot because her BMI was too high.
Debbie told the Paisley Daily Express: “Back in 2021 I joined Grace’s Slimming World group because I needed to get surgery on my foot due to an injury, but unfortunately my BMI was far too high and the doctors said I had to get my BMI down.
“I had tried lots of different diets in the past and nothing worked. I then received a Slimming World leaflet through my door and decided to give it a go.
“That leaflet has changed my life. After losing three stone my surgery went ahead. I continued going to Slimming world after my surgery because I realised how much better I felt in myself from losing weight and wanted to continue my journey.”
Debbie has gone from a size 24 to now wearing a size 14/16 and states that her once “unhealthy relationship” with food has improved.
The 30-year-old is also now able to do everyday tasks such as tie her shoelaces and play with her children.
Debbie added: “Weight loss isn’t just about eating the right foods and moving more it’s also about our mindsets.
“There are so my things I can now physically do that I never used to be able to. I can now touch my toes and bend down to tie my shoelaces and my children’s shoelaces.
“I can now go to the gym and feel confident. I have learnt how to skip with skipping ropes, I can now go for long walks without being in a lot of pain.
“I can also even go up and down stairs without being out of breath. I’ve also found that I now sleep a lot better.”
But the biggest gain is how Debbie’s confidence has grown during her weightloss journey. She added: “My self-confidence was so low before I lost weight. I wouldn’t even look in the mirror.
“My mental health had got so bad due to the pain I was in with my foot and my lack of self-confidence was impacting my marriage and I was too embarrassed to take my kids out to play.
“At one point I felt trapped and I didn’t know how I could change how I felt until I received a leaflet through my door.”
