Scots joiner to lift 100kg barbell up Ben Nevis for MND research in Doddie Weir's memory

A mountain rescuer vows to carry a 100kg barbell on his shoulders to the peak of Ben Nevis for motor neuron disease research.

David Dooher, from Uddingston, says the weight represents “the burden carried by those who live with MND, and their families”. The 37-year-old, who is also a joiner, takes on the mammoth effort attempt to break a Guinness World Record as he scales the UK’s highest peak on June 7 this year – his birthday.

During his efforts, he will be fundraising for the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation started by rugby union player Doddie Weir after his MND diagnosis.
