Scots chef Kevin Dalgleish set for starring role on BBC Great British Menu

A Scots chef is set to make his TV debut after securing a starring role on this year's Great British Menu.

Kevin Dalgleish, from Aberdeen, will be flying the flag for Scotland when he battles it out with some of the finest chefs in the UK in the BBC Two series. Kevin is chef-patron at Amuse on Queen's Terrace in the Granite City and was competing in the Scottish regional heat in what is the 18th season of the popular cookery show.

As reported by Aberdeen Live, Amuse opened to diners in July last year and it was reported last month how the restaurant became the latest addition to the prestigious Michelin guide. The show airs at 8pm from Tuesday, February 28, and viewers will find out if Kevin has progressed from the Scottish heat to challenge for the UK-wide title.

This year's theme is British animation and illustration with the show presented by Andi Oliver and judged by Michelin-starred chef Tom Kerridge, Mowgli mogul Nisha Katona and comedian Ed Gamble. His rivals will include Mark McCabe, Adam Handling and Tunde Abifarin.

Speaking ahead of the show, Kevin said: “I’ve been a huge fan of Great British Menu ever since it first aired and am incredibly honoured to have been asked to represent Scotland this year.

"I’m up against some seriously talented Scottish chefs and I’m really looking forward to everyone at home watching my journey on the show.

“This year’s brief was British animation and illustration, which was a joy - it brought back lovely memories of my childhood in Hawick. I can’t wait for people to see my interpretation of the theme through the dishes that I created to showcase Scotland’s natural larder.”
