ScotRail issues travel advice for Calvin Harris and Primal Scream concerts urging customers to 'travel early'

Music fans have a big weekend ahead with Calvin Harris performing at Hampden Park on Saturday and Primal Scream's Screamadelica Live will take place at Queen’s Park Recreational Ground on both Friday and Saturday. While the shows are both highly anticipated, they will take place amid a reduced rail timetable.

ScotRail customers have been urged to travel early as train lines will be busier than usual and have been asked to consider their travel options home. There will be no trains departing Mount Florida back to Glasgow Central after the Calvin Harris concert finishes.

Those at the Primal Scream Present Screamadelica Live event have been reminded that there are extremely limited services departing from Glasgow after 11pm. This also applies to the Calvin Harris fans who plan to travel home via Glasgow Central or Queen Street services.

The lines running after 11pm include:

  • 23:17 Glasgow Central to East Kilbride
  • 23:21 Glasgow Central to Gourock
  • 23:22 Glasgow Central to Stirling
  • 23:30 Glasgow Central to Ayr
  • 23:45 Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley

ScotRail have said that they will implement a queuing system at Central before the concerts and will be adding extra carriages to trains from Glasgow Central to Mount Florida, which is close to Hampden Park. Commuters have been warned that services will likely be busier on both Friday and Saturday.

Trains are still running on a reduced timetable amid driver shortages. Until recently drivers worked overtime to fill in the gaps but some have begun to refuse doing so amid a pay row with drivers' union ASLEF.

The union is impressed with the latest pay offer, however, and will be putting it to the members in a ballot on July 11. Until then, ScotRail services will continue to run on the reduced timetable, which they say offers more certainty - and if the pay offer is rejected, reduced services could last further into the summer.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Head of Customer Operations, said: “We’re urging everyone who’s travelling to see Calvin Harris at Hampden Park, or Primal Scream at Queen’s Park Recreational Ground, this weekend to plan ahead, check their journey, and consider their travel options.

“To help people get to the gigs, we’ll be adding extra carriages to trains from Glasgow Central to Mount Florida, however, these services are expected to be very busy, so we’d encourage customers to travel early if they can.

“Customers should be aware that there will be no trains from Mount Florida, Kings Park, or Queen Park back to Glasgow after the concerts finishes, so please check your entire journey and know what alternative transport is available.

"A queuing system will be in place at Glasgow Central before events, and we’ll have extra staff there to help and direct you.”
