Scotland need a result on Wednesday to give themselves anything more than a (not very good) puncher's chance of reaching the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time. Steve Clarke's side were on the wrong end of the worst opening-game defeat in European Championship history against Germany – they were three down and reduced to 10 men by the interval and went on to lose 5-1. Switzerland's first match of Euro 2024 could scarcely have been much different. From the moment Kwadwo Duah opened the scoring in the 12th minute against supposed dark horses Hungary, the result was never in doubt, with Breel Embolo coming off the bench to secure a 3-1 win in injury time. The Monaco forward has only just recovered from an ACL tear last August and looked fresh in holding the ball up for Murat Yakin's side. Another win and progress to the last 16, where they're regulars, will again be assured.

Scotland vs Switzerland live stream: team news
Scotland will be without the suspended Ryan Porteous after the centre-back's red card against Germany last Friday, with either Grant Hanley or Scott McKenna the most likely replacements. Further forward, Billy Gilmour is expected to start after surprisingly being left on the bench, while Lawrence Shankland may come in to replace Che Adams, who struggled.
Otherwise, Steve Clarke is expected to show some faith with the players who have qualified for a second successive tournament, in particularly attacking midfield duo Scott McTominay and John McGinn.
Switzerland's biggest decision, meanwhile, is to decide whether to unleash fit-again Breel Embolo from the off after the Monaco striker's goalscoring introduction against Hungary. Kwadwo Duah, though, is expected to get the nod after he opened the scoring.
Otherwise, Denis Zakaria is approaching fitness again after recovering from a thigh problem to take his place on the bench. Also set to stay is the back three of Fabian Schar, Manuel Akanji and Ricardo Rodriguez, who performed admirably on Saturday.
