Kenny Miller believes it would be seen as a failure if Scotland didn't qualify for Euro 2024 after getting off to the perfect start to the campaign.
Steve Clarke's side picked up six points from the international break and sit top of Group A after just two games thanks to a 3-0 win over Cyprus and a 2-0 victory against Spain. Scotland head to Norway and welcome Georgia to Hampden in June knowing that a win in both games could put them just about beyond reach to qualify for two Euro championships in a row.
Scott McTominay was the hero for the Scots against Spain, scoring a double to secure an historic win over the former World Cup winners. The Manchester United star was also on the scoresheet on Saturday when he bagged a brace after John McGinn opened the scoring in the first half against Cyprus. Before Scotland's game against the Spaniards on Tuesday night, Georgia and Norway played out a 1-1 draw in Batumi. It means Norway have just one point from the their first two games, while Spain have three after defeating the Norwegians on Saturday evening.
Former Scotland striker Miller was asked about the hopes of the nations and was quizzed whether it would be a failure if Steve Clarke's men didn't qualify. He told TalkSport: "You know what, I would have to agree with you at this stage now. Going into the group when you look at Norway, Georgia even Cyprus, that was a sticky game against Cyprus in the opener even though it was a 3-0 win. It was two late goals that got the job done.
"Obviously you look at Spain as the favourites to go and top the group, where as now after six points out of six after two home games against Cyprus and Spain all of a sudden we have put ourselves into a position. Even the Georgia Norway result, that feeds into it as well that's a point a piece.
"It gives us good daylight with these two teams that you'd think we're going to challenging for second spot with. After last night it puts us in a wonderful position that if we didn't eventually see out this job in qualifying for the Euros it would tend to feel like that.
"There is a lot of football to be played and a lot of points to be won and lost, but with this start it definitely that optimism to a little be expectant."
