Scotland defender McKenna suffers injury setback just weeks after Hanley blow

Scotland defender Scott McKenna has been hit with another set-back - after only just returning from a hamstring injury.

The former Aberdeen centre-back was forced off inside the first half of Nottingham Forest’s 3-2 defeat at Liverpool on Saturday with a suspected collarbone problem.

McKenna is set to be sent for scans to determine the extent of the injury.

The Anfield clash was only McKenna’s second game back after sustaining a hamstring problem at the start of February, an issue that saw the 26-year-old to miss Scotland’s victories over Cyprus and Spain last month.

Fellow Scotland defender Grant Hanley is already facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a ruptured Achilles.

And ahead of June’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Norway and George, national team boss Steve Clarke will be hoping that McKenna’s injury is not serious.

Forest boss Steve Cooper said: “It will be firmed up in the next day or two. There was talk about his collarbone.

“I guess X-rays and scans will firm everything up in the next day or two. But it didn't look great.

“We know what he is like, so for him to walk off as he did doesn't look great. As always, the next couple of days will determine exactly what's what with it."
