A young girl has been rushed to hospital with serious facial burns following an incident in woodland near a Scots school.
The 12-year-old student suffered the injury near Inveralmond Community High School in Livingston on Monday afternoon.
The S1 pupil was treated by school first aid officers, one of which is a former nurse.
She was then taken to hospital by her mother.
Police launched a probe into the incident.
A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: "The school is aware of an incident involving a pupil and is confident all appropriate steps were taken.
"The pupil involved in the incident was treated by two members of the school first aid team one of which is a former nurse.
"The pupil's family were immediately contacted upon discovery of the incident and it was agreed with the family that they would collect the pupil and take them to hospital.
"At all times the health and wellbeing of our pupils and staff is our main priority.
"It is not appropriate to comment further at this time as the incident is subject to an open and ongoing police investigation."
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were made aware around 8.10pm on Monday, February 7, of young girl being injured in a wooded area of Ladywell, Livingston.
"Enquiries were carried out and no criminality has been established.
"The girl was taken to hospital and released the same day following treatment."
