A man who was a teenager when he stabbed a 15-year-old girl to death on the NSW Central Coast 17 years ago has been released on parole from Cessnock jail.
The killer, known as 'DL' for legal reasons, walked free from the Cessnock Correctional Centre on Monday, a Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman told AAP.
DL stabbed Tania Burgess to death after she got off a school bus and walked through the car park of Forresters Beach Resort on July 19, 2005.
He had previously caught the same school bus as his victim, before following and then stabbing her 48 times as she walked home.
He was arrested on the day and later jailed for at least 17 years with a maximum term of 22 years, which was reduced by four years.
In custody since he was 16, DL is now 32 and was granted parole in June, nearly 17 years after the murder.
He must notify authorities daily of his movements and engage with forensic psychologist treatment along with other strict conditions.
Recently, Tania's parents, Chris and Mandy Burgess, have fought to reveal DL's name, which has been suppressed because he was a minor when he committed the crime.
