Schoolgirl killed on her way to buy sweets in tragedy which tore family apart
The sister of an 11-year-old Everton girl who died after being knocked down by a police officer in an unmarked car has spoken for the first time of how her once happy family was "torn apart" by heartbreak.
Kelly Edgar was hit by a Ford Fiesta at the junction of Shaw Street and College Street North at 8.20pm on January 30, 1993. She had been walking to her local corner shop to buy some sweets with her big sister Leanne, 13, who witnessed the horrific incident.

As the 30th anniversary of the tragedy approaches, Leanne said: "I was in front of Kelly, she was behind me, and as I got to the other side of the road I heard a bang. I turned around and saw Kelly flying through the air.
"At first I thought the car wasn't going to stop, but then it did stop quite far down the road. When the driver got out, it was a policeman. I can't remember much. I was hysterical, screaming, just hoping she would get up."

Lynn claimed she was "tailgated" by the taxi driver, in a Mercedes, for a number of minutes and thought she had got away after a set of lights. But she claimed the taxi driver went through the red lights and tried to overtake and edge in front of her.
As she reached the next set of lights near the Rocket pub and started to manoeuvre into the next lane, the driver "erratically" overtook her to cut in front. He then proceeded to exit his taxi, with the flyover seen in the background, before launching into a foul-mouthed tirade of abuse at the confused woman.

Liverpool Crown Court heard on Tuesday afternoon that the girl had been out rollerblading shortly before 8pm on the evening in question and saw the defendant driving past her several times in his van. Rycroft later claimed to have been circulating the area looking for houses where there could be potential new customers for his window cleaning business.
Charlotte Kenny, prosecuting, described how he then pulled his vehicle over to use a toilet near to where she had stopped. After he had done so, the 48-year-old approached her from behind, tapped her on the shoulder and asked her "if she was nervous".
Rycroft touched her on the bottom and beckoned her into a cubicle, where he instructed her to perform a sex act on him. She "froze" at this point, with the pervert leaving and driving away afterwards.
