A school in Stalybridge has issued a heartfelt tribute after a pupil tragically died after 'getting into difficulty' in water earlier this week. The teenager, who was named on Thursday as 14-year-old Lucy Smith, lost her life in water just off Crowswood Drive in Stalybridge on Monday night (August 15).
Specialist search crews rushed to the scene but her body was recovered from the water overnight. Tributes, cards and balloons have been left at the waterside in recent days, along with teddies, as well as a sign that said 'RIP Lucy'.
Copley Academy, in Stalybridge, issued a public statement on Thursday evening. They also urged any of their pupils struggling the death of the pupil to contact them for support.
