Scaffolding collapses outside disused pub on busy high street

Scaffolding collapsed outside a building in a busy High Street area this afternoon.

The incident took place in Wavertree at around 12 midday today on Prince Alfred Road, at its junction with Wavertree High Street. No-one was injured, but two vans were left damaged following the incident.

Pictures taken at the scene showed the scaffolding frame had toppled over, and was now leaning at an angle. It is not clear at this stage what caused it to collapse.

The scaffolding surrounded a disused pub, the Thatched House which the ECHO understands has been closed for some time.

A police spokesperson said: "At around 12.10pm this afternoon (Thursday) officers were called to a report that a scaffolding had fallen on Wavertree High Street near Tesco Express.

"No one was injured but two vans were damaged by the fallen scaffolding.

"Officers are at the scene and there are currently no road closures."
