Sarah Lancashire hit with fine as Happy Valley copper finds herself on wrong side of law

Sarah Lancashire was hit with a huge parking fine ahead of the finale of Happy Valley airing on Sunday night.

The actress, who plays no-nonsense Catherine Cawood in the BBC series, looked fuming as she returned to her car in London last week to see a yellow ticket slapped on the window screen.

Dressed in jeans, a blue shirt and a puffer coat similar to the one her on-screen character wears in the crime drama, Sarah, 58, peeled the parking fine off her window before continuing her day.

The former soap star looked far from pleased to be fined for the parking offence in west London, where she had parked on a street during the prohibited hours of 8am and 6.30pm. She was also parked with her wheels on the pavement.

Sarah's traffic woes come as Happy Valley fans heap praise on Sarah's acting ability and predict Hollywood success for the star in the future.

"I don’t think you understand how much i NEED a sarah lancashire oscar vehicle within the next 2 years, make her the next olivia colman #happyvalley," one fan begged on Twitter earlier this month.

Former Peep Show actress Olivia received the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2019, thanks to her portrayal of Anne, Queen of Great Britain in the period black-comedy film The Favourite.

Another fan mused on Twitter: "Sarah Lancashire is WELL overdue her Olivia Colman style international fame explosion. She’s honestly one of the best we’ve ever had."

"It’s time for the Olivia Colmanification of Sarah Lancashire," a third wishfully tweeted.

Sarah has been one of the nation's favourite TV stars for almost four decades.

Most British TV fans first met Sarah when she first appeared on the cobbled streets of Weatherfield, playing much-loved barmaid Raquel Wolstenhulme in ITV soap Coronation Street.

Since quitting the soap in 1996 - returning briefly in 2000 - the mum-of-three has gone on to become a national treasure thanks to appearing in British productions such as Where The Heart Is, Clocking Off and of course, Sally Wainwright’s Bafta award-winning crime drama Happy Valley.

The penultimate episode of the BBC crime drama aired over the weekend after Tommy Lee Royce escaped from court at the end of the last episode, with Ryan Cawood, his grandma Catherine and the rest of the family going into hiding.

As Ryan was left with his grandad's wife while waiting to be moved into a safe house, the teenager headed to his uncle's Daniel's house - where Ann Gallagher was ready to give Ryan a piece of her mind.

The detective told Ryan how disgusted she was to learn he had been visiting his dad in prison over recent months, and informed her husband's nephew exactly what Tommy did to his late mother.

Things concluded with Ryan chatting to his criminal father via his gamer tag - agreeing to meet up with him - ahead of the final ever episode of Happy Valley this weekend.
