Sarah Ferguson thanks public for support following breast cancer diagnosis

Sarah Ferguson has thanked the public for their “kindness and support” after revealing that she recently underwent surgery following a breast cancer diagnosis.

Taking to Instagram on Monday, the 63-year-old ex-wife of Prince Andrew shared a picture of a bright pink flower.

“Thank you so much for such kindness and support,” she wrote on the image, along with a praying hands emoji.

It comes a day after a spokesperson for the duchess confirmed that an early form of the disease had been detected at a routine mammogram screening.

She was then advised to have surgery, which was a success, and the mother-of-two is now recuperating with her family.

The spokesperson said: “The duchess is receiving the best medical care and her doctors have told her that the prognosis is good.

“The duchess wants to express her immense gratitude to all the medical staff who have supported her in recent days.

“She is also hugely thankful to the staff involved in the mammogram which identified her illness, which was otherwise symptom-free, and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening.”

She is set to open up further about her diagnosis in the latest episode of her new podcast, Tea Talk, which is due to be released on Monday.

Teasing it on Instagram, she wrote: “about time we spilled the tea”.

The new venture sees the duchess team up with co-host Sarah Jane Thomson, entrepreneur and founder of children’s news platform First News.
