Saoirse Ronan has revealed she would “love” to play a female Bond villain.
The 30-year-old actress has made a name for herself in period dramas like Little Women, Mary Queen of Scots, and Ammonite, but said she’s eager to try something new.
“I would love to do an action film next! I want to play a Bond villain. I really want [Bond producer] Barbara Broccoli to hire me!” the Irish star told The Talks on Wednesday.
“I feel like I just want to try everything, but also you're beholden to the Barbara Broccolis and the studios and the streamers where unless you've got all the money in the world, you're waiting for that job to come in.”
The Bond main villain role has never been played by a woman. Rami Malek last took on the role in 2021’s No Time To Die as Dieas Lyutsifer.
Ronan added that she craves the “freedom” that comes with starring in a modern-day film, as she doesn’t have to “double-check” her phrases or mannerisms are accurate for the time period.
The Atonement star also shared her 007 ambitions last month.
She revealed she had turned down a major Marvel role in favour of a potential gig in the Bond franchise.
“I can't see myself doing Marvel. I don't…no, I would prefer to do Bond,” Ronan said on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast.
In October, the Lady Bird star reiterated her desire to take on a Bond baddie character in an interview with The Sun.
“I've always said that I want to play a Bond villain. I'd really love to do that. I'm serious, I would. If anyone knows Barbara Broccoli, please tell her,” the star said.
She even put forward her husband, James Lowden, 34, to be the next James Bond while co-hosting BBC Radio 2 with Edith Bowman, saying: “There's time, there's time.”
Daniel Craig bid farewell to the Bond role after No Time To Die, having played the iconic British Secret Service agent for five films.
There has been plenty of speculation about who will replace the actor, 56, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Rege-Jean Page and James Norton all reported to be fitting substitutes.
Craig hinted at his successor while presenting an honorary Oscar to Bond producers Broccoli and Michael G Wilson at the Governors Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The Knives Out actor said onstage: “But first, let’s just get something out of the way.
“If you came here this evening to find out who the next James Bond is, don’t look at me, but he might be in the room… just joking… maybe I’m not?”
The likes of Barry Keoghan, Nicholas Hoult, and Paul Mescal were all sitting in the audience at the ceremony.
