Samurai swords and knives found during raid with Scottish police

A number of weapons were seized in one part of Merseyside.

Officers from the Knowsley targeted team executed a search warrant in the Halewood area in conjunction with police Scotland on Tuesday. During the search police found three Samurai swords which were seized.

Police said amendments to the Criminal Justice Act 1988 that came into effect on July 14 last year made possession in private of an offensive weapon a criminal offence under Section 141(1A) of the Act. This section includes any weapon with a curved blade over 50cm in length, alongside a number of other blunt and bladed items designed specifically as weapons.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "If you wish to dispose of any such items in a safe manner, keep an eye out for our blade amnesty events (these will be circulated on social media), or enquire within your local police station." Just the day before, police also arrested a man on Monday for having a weapon in the Knowsley area.

Police searched a man in Kirkby and he was found to be hiding a "sharp kitchen knife" with a 10cam blade. He was arrested for for possessing a bladed article in public.
