Samuel Eto’o believes African teams will deliver on their “potential” and win the World Cup in Qatar.
The former Cameroon, Chelsea and Barcelona striker has tipped his nation to lift the trophy this winter after defeating Morocco in the final.
“Africa has always had the potential to deliver great World Cups, but we haven't always shown our best face so far,” he is quoted by Ouest France as saying.
“Over the years, African teams have gained more and more experience, and I think they are ready not only to participate in a World Cup, but also to win this competition.”
Africa Cup of Nations winners Senegal have been tipped by some as dark horses, in a group with the Netherlands, Ecuador and hosts Qatar.
Cameroon must come through a group featuring Serbia, Switzerland and Brazil while Morocco are in Group F with Croatia, Canada and Belgium.
Ghana and Tunisia complete the five African teams representing their continent at the 2022 World Cup.
