Sam Johnstone set to sign new long-term contract with Crystal Palace

Sam Johnstone is set to sign a new long-term deal with Crystal Palace.

The England international has established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper after the summer departure of former stalwart Vicente Guaita, earning himself a place in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions set-up ahead of Euro 2024.

Johnstone moved to Selhurst Park from West Bromwich Albion in the summer of 2022 and has since gone on to keep nine clean sheets in 22 appearances for the club.

Wolves were linked with a move during the summer transfer window but the 30-year-old is now likely to sign a three-and-a-half year extension to his current contract, which was not due to expire until 2026.

The Eagles also signed England ‘keeper Dean Henderson in August but he had struggled to oust Johnstone as the first-choice before suffering an injury.

Palace have made a solid start to the season under manager Roy Hodgson and travel to Newcastle United on Saturday.
