After lots of speculation over what he might or might not sing, Sam Fender fired on all cylinders as he played the first of two sell out shows at St James' Park on Friday night.
The lad, who has gone from strength to strength since winning the Brits Critics Choice award at the start of 2019, had all eyes on him as he and his band walked into a stage surrounded by a sea of black and white and after a rendition of Local Hero that would make even the coldest of hearts melt.
Ahead of Sam's St James' gigs, there had been plenty of rumours of special guests putting in an unexpected cameo to add to the occasion and Friday became a real family affair for Sam as he was joined by fellow singer, brother Liam for a Bruce Springsteen cover that, not only, went down a treat with the crowd, but also saw them having total ball on stage.
As fans would have expected, classics from Sam's ever growing repertoire like Will We Talk, Getting Started and Hypersonic Missiles were all present and correct as 'woah oh oh ohs' from Seventeen Going Under rang on from the stadium and into the night.
