Sam Fender relives Leeds Festival 'horror' of being saved from burning tent as he gets headline slot

Sam Fender has recalled a rather terrifying moment of needing to be saved from a 'burning tent' at Leeds Festival, as he shared the news that he will be headlining the event next year.

As we near the end of what has been an amazing 12 months for the North Shields star, Sam has been confirmed to be topping the bill at Leeds and Reading next year, joining the likes of The Killers, Billie Eilish and mate Lewis Capaldi on the bill for the long-running summer event, which takes over two different locations every year.

Sam chose to relive a memory of attending Leeds as a fan as he broke the news to his growing fanbase on social media and it sounds like he's lucky to still be here to tell the tale. Above the line-up poster, the Seventeen Going Under singer wrote: "I first went to Leeds festival 10 years ago as a teenager, me and Deano spent the entire week launching hot dogs out of a gazebo pole at random crowds of lads chanting ‘Yorkshire Yorkshire’."

Detailing what happened, he added: "One night I was out cold in my tent from necking a bottle of vodka at Eagles of Death Metal my tent got set alight - some fine young hero from Sheffield p***ed out the fire to save me. Thankfully because of that lad whose name I can’t remember, I didn’t perish in the flames, little did he know he’d just saved Reading and Leeds’s 2023 headliner. See you down the front."

The announcement Sam will be headlining Leeds and Reading and his scary anecdote got a huge reaction from fans. One replied: "Wow. Luv your stories thank god for that lad," with another commenting: "Get In, that's my kinda story, I love it!"
