A bar and restaurant near Nottinghamshire has closed after its owners had a meeting with administrators. The "devastating" news was announced by the owners of The Sanctuary Garden on Monday, December 26.
The owners explained in a statement that costs resulting from renovation work on the building that the establishment was housed in - at 15 Market Place in the centre of Bolsover - had contributed to their tough decision. The collapse of the business came “very suddenly”, said the statement, after a meeting with administrators just last week.
The owners’ post was received with an outpouring of support from customers, many of whom were saddened and disappointed by the news. Nearly 150 comments had been left, Derbyshire Live reports.

One said: “This is devastating news for the whole community. We had our wedding reception there only a few months ago. May we wish you all of the best going forward as you will be sorely missed.”
Another said: "I cannot express how shocked and saddened we were to hear this news. We were regular customers on Sundays and never had a bad meal.”
The kitchen was open for the final time on Christmas Eve. The owners have offered refunds to all those who had Christmas vouchers pre-booked, having ceased the sale of the vouchers as soon as they knew of their potential closure. They thanked everyone who had supported the business throughout 2022.
The Sanctuary Garden opened in 2019 after the owners purchased the building, which used to house the Anchor Inn. The building was in a neglected condition and the owners set about renovating the place to bring it up to modern standards.
The business had a rating of 4.8 stars on Google from 101 reviews, 4.9 stars on Facebook from 138 reviews and 4.5 stars on Tripadvisor. It is unclear at this stage what will become of the building.
