Six people were killed and at least nine others were injured in a mass shooting in Sacramento, police have said.
Terrified witnesses were seen sprinting away after a brawl broke out close to bars in the Californian city as gunshots rang out.
The Sacramento Police Department confirmed that six people had died as a result of their injuries.
They were among 15 victims, the force said, but the condition of those injured is not currently known.
Video from the scene appears to capture the the moment rapid gunfire, possibly from a semi-automatic weapon, rang out.
Sacramento Police Department tweeted: "9th St to 13th St is closed between L St & J St as officers investigate a shooting with multiple victims.
"Conditions unknown at this time. Please avoid the area as a large police presence will remain and the scene remains active.
"Officers located at least 15 shooting victims, including 6 who are deceased."
Video thought to be from the scene shows a group of people fighting, with several people thrown to the ground in the chaos.
Suddenly loud gunshots ring out, causing those caught up in the throng to run in terror.
The authenticity of the video has yet to be confirmed.
Photos from the scene shows a large emergency service presence, including multiple ambulances.
The tragedy unfolded shortly after 2am local time, with bystanders claiming to have heard upwards of 50 shots, according to media reports.
Police said several blocks were closed while they investigate, but released no details on the ages or identities of the victims.
The incident comes a little more than a month after a man shot and killed his three children and a fourth person before taking his own life in the same city.
