Ryan Tubridy says 'we were robbed' in Eurovision as he praises Wild Youth

Ryan Tubridy has revealed he didn’t watch the Eurovision on Saturday and felt Wild Youth was “robbed”.

The Late Late host who has just two more Friday night episodes to go before he bows out of the RTE flagship show, said that producers involved in the international song contest need to “get it right”.

He said: “I didn’t get to see the Eurovision but I believe it was a bit of fun.”

“Eurovision is alive and well,” he added on his RTE radio show on Monday morning.

“It continues to be of massive interest.”

But the RTE star indicated that the format for Ireland needs adapting.

“They’ve tried every which way to get it right.”

Ryan admitted he doesn’t tend to watch the Eurovision when Ireland isn’t in it but was full of praise for the Irish entry, Wild Youth, who didn’t make it into Saturday night’s finals.

“I do feel very very strongly that we were robbed.”

“I thought their song was excellent.”

“I thought they were very good.

“I’m not a Eurovision expert but I know a good song when I hear it and that was a damn fine song.”

Ryan is now counting down to his departure next week after 14 years hosting the Late Late.

He said: “On Friday week the Late Late show comes to an end with me at the helm and then someone else takes over.”

“I won’t bang on about it. I’m sure you’ve all heard quite enough.”

He continued that he had “great fun” on last Friday’s Late Late with the “very charming” Michael Bublé.

“He was very charming and generous as you’d expect.

“But I was taken aback by just how kind he was, and thoughtful with his gifts and his singing and everything.

“And we did have great fun with all the other guests obviously as well but that was the big opener.”

“And so we now head towards next Friday and beyond.”
