Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively matching donations up to $1million to Ukrainian refugees

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have promised to use their wealth to help support the people of Ukraine.

In the wake of Russia's attacks on the country earlier this week, the Hollywood couple have pledged to match donations up to $1 million made to help refugees fleeing their homes.

On Saturday, the Deadpool actor, 45, took to Twitter to share a fundraising link for the United Nations Refugee Agency in support of Ukrainian refugees.

Ryan explained how he and his wife Blake, 34, will be matching donations 'up to $1,000,000' to create 'double the support'.

Writing on her Instagram profile, Gossip Girl star Blake shared a similar statement with her fans - explaining how she and her husband are ' are doubling every dollar donated' to the cause.

"In 48 hours, countless Ukrainians were forced to flee their homes to neighboring countries,' Ryan wrote while quote-tweeting a post by the non-profit organisation.

The dad-of-three added: "They need protection. When you donate, we'll match it up to $1,000,000, creating double the support."

The original tweet from The UN Refugee Agency read: "Right now, the crisis in Ukraine is forcing families to flee their homes.

"Please make a donation today to send lifesaving aid to displaced Ukrainians, and @VancityReynolds & @blakelively will match your gift $1-for-$1 up to $1,000,000."

In less than 12 hours, Ryan's generous pledge racked up over 50,000 'likes' and thousands of replies from fans donating to the cause - sharing screenshots of their monetary offerings.

Blake used a picture of a mother with a child wearing a jacket in the Ukrainian colors of blue and yellow to share the announcement on Instagram.

"@vancityreynolds and I are doubling every dollar donated to @usaforunhcr up to $1,000,000. link in bio to donate," the mum-of-three told her 31.5 million followers on Saturday.

"@usaforunhcr is on the ground helping the 50,000+ Ukrainians who had to flee their homes in less than 48 hours. @usaforunhcr is providing life saving aid, and also working with neighboring countries to ensure protection for these families."

Actress Zoe Saldana was one of the hundreds to comment on the post, adding a trio of clapping-hands emojis to her pal's generous post.

Blake's half-sister, Twin Peaks star Robyn Lively, also pledged her support, commenting: "Done! I love you beyond."

It's believed around 120,000 Ukrainians have been forced to flee their home country after Russia began its invasion of its neighboring nation on Thursday.

The United Nations have since warned that up to 4 million people may flee Ukraine if the Russian attacks continue.

Blake and Ryan's pledge to support Ukrainian refugees isn't the first time the pair have donated to a good cause this year.

Earlier this month, the couple - who tied the knot in 2012 - donated $1 million to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact families across the world.

In 2020 - at the start of the pandemic - the movie stars gifted $500,000 each to the organisations, going on to support many more good causes in the following months.
