Defender Ryan Porteous will reportedly NOT move to Rangers despite suggestions over a cut-price move away from Hibs next month.
The 23-year-old is in the final six months of his deal and will not be signing a new contract following months of negotiations with the Easter Road club. The Leith side now plan to cash in on Porteous during the January transfer window, although any transfer fee would be weighed up against the player’s value in helping the team push for European football in the Scottish Premiership.
Former Hibs boss Jim Duffy had hinted that a move could be on the cards for the Scotland cap going as far to suggest that a £500k move to Rangers could on the cards if they wanted to do a January deal with the Hibees. The Ibrox side have faced a defensive injury crisis so far this season with John Souttar, FIlip Helander, Connor Goldson and Ben Davies all facing time on the sidelines.
However, reports now suggest there has been no contact made by Rangers despite the club considering cashing in on the defender. The Times state that there has been "no contact" between Rangers and Hibs, but it is noted that the Easter Road side "expect approaches for the centre half soon."
Hibs boss Lee Johnson has previously hinted that a move before the end of the season would perhaps be the best solution. Despite this, he has noted that he intends to keep playing Porteous until he is no longer on the books in Leith.
