Blackburn are set to bid for Hibs star Ryan Porteous.
The Championship side are set to make a six-figure offer for the Scottish international to try and land him this month. Hibs had been in talks with Udinese over a transfer but they have been unable to agree a fee, although those talks could yet be resumed. Porteous is out-of-contract in the summer and several English Championship clubs are interested, including Stoke City, although few have the financial muscle to make an offer this month.
Rovers boss Jon Dahl-Tomasson wants to strengthen his defence and his recruitment have made Porteous a main defensive target. Hibs are likely to accept an offer now rather than lose him for nothing in the summer. There will be a string of offers for the 23-year-old if he runs his contract down and leaves Easter Road for free in the summer. Porteous continues to be a regular for Hibs and played the 90 minutes against Dundee United yesterday.
Any funds that do come in would allow Lee Johnson to strengthen his own squad. He has been told he needs to cut his existing squad before he can add.
But the boss said after the 2-2 draw against United that he's expecting incomings: "We are trying. I can’t guarantee anything but there’s been a few outs which creates some funds.
"We are certainly active and I’m very clear in my mind as to what I would like defensively and offensively. I’m happy with the potential options but we have to try and get them over the line and it’s never easy because good players are in high demand.”
