Rutherglen's MSP has praised locals for a "heart-warming" response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Lanarkshire Live has recently told of numerous businesses, churches, schools and individuals who have done their bit to help Ukrainians affected by the Russian invasion of their country.
Now Clare Haughey has called for further support to help bolster the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, which is raising funds to urgently respond to the crisis and supply people affected with shelter, food, water and medical support.
Over one million people have already fled their homes, leaving behind jobs, belongings and loved ones as the fighting has destroyed homes and key essential services.
DEC charities and their local partners are inside and outside Ukraine, after having mobilised immediately to help people on the ground.
Ms Haughey told Lanarkshire Live : "“We have all watched in horror as Russia’s aggression has led to deplorable loss of Ukrainian lives, livelihoods and of homes.
"I know that many people want to do what they can to support those affected by Putin’s war, and the Disasters Emergency Committee’s appeal is the fastest and most efficient way to support those on the ground.
"I have donated to the DEC Appeal in Scotland, and I am encouraging all those who can spare some money to do so too.”
In addition to the work of the DEC appeal, the local MSP has praised the action taken locally to support the people of Ukraine, with residents, local businesses, and third sector organisations getting involved to help.
She added: "The response across Cambuslang and Rutherglen has been heart-warming – with communities pulling together to provide immediate practical and financial assistance to the people of Ukraine.
“Dickson Chemist, members of our local Polish community, the Nurture Society and Rain or Shine South Lanarkshire are just a few groups that I am aware of who have been doing incredible work and getting support to those who need it.
"Rutherglen and Cambuslang stand in solidarity with the democracies worldwide in supporting Ukraine."
Thousands of people across Scotland have donated to the appeal since it opened last Thursday – with funds raised totalling over £10 million.

Texts cost £10 and the whole £10 goes to the DEC UKRAINE HUMANITARIAN APPEAL. You must be 16 or over and please ask the bill payer's permission.
