A child has been injured and at least six people have been killed by missile strikes on the city of Lviv in western Ukraine. The city, around 70km from the border with Poland, has been considered a relatively safe haven since Russia's invasion.
But Vladimir Putin's forces have stepped up attacks across Ukraine in recent days, including in Lviv and the capital Kyiv. Shelling and missile strikes are intended to weaken Ukraine before a new attack in the east, analysts believe.
Today (April 18) civilian buildings in Lviv are burning, after being hit by what locals believe are missiles launched by Russia. At least six people were killed as plumes of black smoke rose over the city after the blasts.
