Russell Martin desperate for Swansea City trio to sign new deals and hopes 'one more conversation can tip the balance'

Russell Martin fully emphasised his desire to see Kyle Naughton, Joel Latibeaudiere and Ryan Manning extend their stays at Swansea City and stated he hopes to have one final round of talks with Manning over his deal.

The trio all see their contracts expire in the summer and are yet to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

And ahead of the final game of the season against West Brom on Monday, Martin stated he hopes the impending investment into the club will bolster their chances of keeping the trio in south Wales.

When asked if Monday will be a day of farewells, Martin responded: "I hope not. But I don't know at the moment so I can't give you any clarity.

"I'd love to keep all three, but we're not at that point at the moment. I hope with everything going on we can get some clarity and get to that point. If it is their final game I'm sure they'll want to finish off well and I'm sure the supporters will want to make sure they know how appreciated their hard work has been.

"I'll be really sad to lose one of them, let alone all of them. I think we need to try and avoid that but we'll have to wait and see."

And on Manning specifically, the head coach said: "I don't know what the new investment means for us in detail. It's not my job to know. I think we're waiting for a bit of clarity and to see if there's anything we can do further.

"I know how Ryan feels about what we're doing, the club and what we're building and how much he enjoys his role.

"To hear how much he's grown as a person as well as a player under us was really the best thing for us. I hope we can continue to grow together, if we can't, I hope we look at ourselves as a club and realise that we've given it the best shot we possibly can. I hope it means there's maybe one more discussion there that tips the balance in our favour."

Regarding Latibeaudiere and Naughton, Martin said: "A bit different, age profile, everything else, experience, Joel is just as important as Ryan. His flexibility has been incredible. He's a cultural architect, a warrior, leader. He's shown in the last few weeks he can make a position his own and be the very best at it in the division.

"Kyle, I really hope we can keep him. He's probably not played as much as he wants this season, he's so important to us. Last year without Kyle the process would have been a lot longer.

"His quality from day one, his mentality and attitude, they love him in the dressing room. We love him. When someone's spent a long time at a club I always feel with the service they've given and what's he's given it should be their decision to leave the club and not taken out of their hands."

Meanwhile, Luke Cundle stressed he wants to return to south Wales next year as his season-long spell from Wolves draws to an end.

The 21-year-old has made 33 appearances in all competitions so far this term and netted his second goal for the club in last weekend's 1-1 draw with Hull City.

“I will have a little break and then I will see where I end up," Cundle said of his plans for the summer.

“I’d love to come back to Swansea. It’s been great for me, not just developing on the pitch but off the pitch as well, in a different changing room environment.

“There’s a lot of room for improvement so I wouldn’t mind coming back again and playing again. I think it’s a possibility – I will just see.”

Liam Walsh, Jay Fulton, Joe Allen and Steven Benda will all miss Swansea's Championship contest with West Brom on Monday. Kick-off at the Swansea.com Stadium is at 3pm.
