Two Ayrshire fitness groups teamed up in a bid to smash the attendance record at a popular running event in Kilwinning.
Members of Fit Ayrshire Dads (FAD) and Fit Ayrshire Masses (FAM) staged a ‘takeover’ of the 5k Eglinton Parkrun, aiming to beat the previous high of 259.
But despite a large turnout, they couldn’t quite manage it, falling short at a respectable 221 runners.
FAD member Andrew Darling was the clear winner on the day, crossing the line first in a fast time of 18 minutes 56 seconds - 15 seconds ahead of the next finisher.
The likes of Irvine Running Club, Ron’s Runners and North Ayrshire Athletics Club all pitched in too, with many members notching impressive times.
James Chalmers of Ron’s Runners claimed third place with an impressive time of 19:37. Jim Sneddon was the top Irvine runner with a time of 22:17 for 17th place with North Ayrshire’s Paul Turnbull one place behind in 22:25.
